With Google’s mobile operating system going from strength-to-strength an internet security expert has warned the open system could be the next mainstream target for high-profile hackers
Following the recent spate of high-profile system hacks, industry expert Roger Wilson has told T3 Google’s mobile operating system Android is likely to be the next big target for professional hackers.
In an exclusive interview the Vice President of Marketing at Internet Security firm Kaspersky Lab suggested Android’s open nature will make it a prime target for hackers as its user base continues to expand and grow.
“Because the Microsoft operating system Windows is the one that is still dominant in the market place, that is where the majority of hackers go,” said Wilson. “As Android grows in the future it will become more of a target for hackers. We’ve already started spotting the first viruses coming through on Android.”
Earlier this year Sony’s online gaming service the PlayStation Network was hacked with the personal details of more than 24 million users stolen.
“Android has the potential to be a very big market in the future. These threats will only grow as more people use Android to do their online banking and shopping and as the system is rolled out across many new devices.”
